Origin
NeedleAid™ was designed in Canada as an aid to help a visually–impaired diabetic patient to self-administer his daily dose of insulin. This simple, but ingenious concept enables diabetic patients to self-inject their insulin with optimum safety and convenience. Although inspired by the need to help diabetics, it is equally helpful in other medications, and is invaluable in all cases where fear of needles is a concern.

How it works
The NeedleAid™ consists of an outer plastic sleeve with a bell-shaped end and an inner sleeve within which the insulin pen or syringe fits. The outer shell is placed on the injection site with one hand and the inner sleeve is pushed down with the other hand. Once the inner sleeve is completely depressed, push down on the pen/syringe plunger to inject the medication. Releasing downward pressure on the pen/syringe safely withdraws the needle back up into the NeedleAid™.

Advantages of NeedleAid™
NeedleAid™’s unique system ensures that the needle will automatically be inserted and withdrawn at the required angle and depth to avoid bending, breaking or other serious complications. It is of great benefit for the visually impaired who have difficulty positioning the fine needle for insertion, and afterward for cleansing the site. Those who suffer tremors or reduced fine motor control can use it to stabilize their insulin pen or syringe and safely inject the medication. Because the needle is out of sight within the device, the traumatic psychological effect of self-injection is much reduced for those patients who have a fear of needles.
